About the Summit

A summit concerning children and the arts was held in Denmark for the first time on the 3rd and 4th of October 2016. The organisers of the summit, the Danish associaton ’Barndrømmen’ and their partner ’Children and the Arts UK’, wish to focus attention on how art and culture efficiently can help vulnerable children achieve greater success in their future lives.

Background
All children are imaginative with a creative ability– each in their own way and within various areas. Imaginationand creativity are linked to happiness, self-esteem and commitment.
Unfortunately, today’s Denmark does not adequately focus on what the arts can contribute to improve the future abilities for children and young people, especially those who are vulnerable and disadvantaged.

The International One-day Conference in The Royal Danish Theatre, Copenhagen.
The international conference was open to all those interested whose remit is children and the arts or who work with underprivileged and vulnerable children and young people.
The conference with its discussion papers and talks by well-known international and Danish specialists highlighted how authorities and cultural organisations can assist children and young people in developing a valuable and extended understanding of their own worth by using art and culture as a tool.
